NDMC ranked cleanest small city in cleanliness survey

"The overall and component-wise weightage for Swachh Survekshan-2018 had a shift from Swachh Survekshan-2017 weightages", the minister said.

Vijayawada, Mysuru, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Greater Mumbai took home the top spots for "cleanest big city", "cleanest medium city", "cleanest small city" and "cleanest state capital/UT" respectively.

This time, the Union Ministry of Urban Development survey was conducted in 4,200 cities, covering a population of 40 crore. The union government's results for the cleanliness survey for the current year were out on Wednesday. Cities having population of one lakh and more and capital cities were ranked at the national-level and cities with population of less than one lakh were ranked at the zonal-level - North, South, East, West and North East. In the cleanliness survey of year 2018, Bhopal lost first rank to Indore despite all the efforts undertaken by Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC). The names of the "worst-performing cities" in the latest survey would be announced on the day the awards are presented to the winners, Puri added. While deciding the awards, it has been kept in mind that one city gets only one award i.e the category in which it has performed the best. No matter wherever you go in the world, Chandigarh has a special vibe and it is said that once you have lived in Chandigarh, you'll not like any other city.

The results of Swachh Survekshan 2018, which aims to estimate levels of cleanliness across cities in the country, were announced today by Minister of State for Housing Hardeep Singh Puri today. Jharkhand's Ranchi was the best state capital as per citizen's feedback, while Goa's Panaji had the best innovation and practices.

As compared to 2017, where Swachh Survekshan was conducted in 434 cities, for this year, the scope was enhanced manifold. The Swachh Bharat Survey was conducted in February this year.

Chandigarh has been declared the third cleanest city in the country. The civic body has scored full marks under this category too.

Mayor Nanda Jichkar said the city failed on one ground - no segregation of garbage.
