Former Aston Villa defender Jlloyd Samuel killed in car crash, aged 37

A MOVING minute's applause was held at Villa Park on Tuesday night to pay tribute to Jlloyd Samuel who was killed in a vehicle crash in Lymm.

Samuel also played for England at youth level, featuring for the Under-18, Under-20 and Under-21 teams, but pledged his global allegiance to Trinidad, winning two caps.

The ex-Aston Villa, Bolton and Cardiff defender was involved in the smash moments after dropping his children off at school at around 8am yesterday.

In a statement issued on Wednesday via Cheshire Police, the father-of-four's family said: "Jlloyd was a loving son, father, husband and brother".

Villa have confirmed they will wear black armbands during the second leg of their Championship play-off semi-final against Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

It posted on Twitter: "Our players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect tonight and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this very hard time". Condolences to Emma, his kids and the Samuel family.

Bolton Wanders FC also posted to Twitter, saying: "Rest in peace, Jlloyd".

"He was extremely popular and well-loved by all who were fortunate to know him".
