Centre declares conditional ceasefire in J&K during Ramzan

Just a few days ago, Mufti had demanded a unilateral ceasefire by the security forces during Ramzan and Amarnath yatra in the state.

He said the decision reminded him of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's era when he announced a "unilateral ceasefire". She also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh for their intervention.

Sources said it should not be viewed as a ceasefire but "suspension of operations" during the month long Ramzan starting May 18.

He said this would be called a non-initiation of combat operations.

New Delhi, May 16 The BJP today expressed hope that the Centre's decision to stop operations of security forces in Jammu and Kashmir during Ramzan will be reciprocated by all in the valley.

It also said that home minister Mr. Singh has informed the chief minister of the government's decision.

The BJP had said that the "unilateral ceasefire" would only serve to ease pressure on militants and allow them to re-energise.

World Cup victor Ray Wilson dies
There was nothing on display at Ray Wilson's home that told you this was the house of a World Cup victor . Wilson ended his football career in 1971 and subsequently worked as an undertaker for more than 25 years.

This came about as terrorists were able to move freely and attack security forces and vital installations with nearly total impunity.

The appeal came after the idea was floated at an All-Party Meet called by the Chief Minister in Srinagar to discuss the situation in the Valley. "Government expects everyone to cooperate in this initiative and help the Muslim brothers & sisters to observe Ramzan peacefully and without any difficulties", the statement added.

"We are in complete disagreement and the chief minister can not pressure us on this".

"The security forces must observe the ceasefire strictly and should fire only when fired upon", it said. "They will take appropriate measures to ensure peace", he said.

About 65 terrorists and 29 sliders have been killed this year. Forward posts in the Siachen Glacier, and posts and formations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) are now being stocked. In fact, the LoC has already seen more than 815 ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the first four months as compared to 850 such violations for the entire past year.
