Verizon 5G rollout starts in Los Angeles in Q4 2018

Back in November 2017, Verizon revealed that the first wave of deployment will include between three and five areas. The 2nd was announced today and it's Los Angeles.

McAdam also named Los Angeles as the second of four cities that will receive 5G rollout from Verizon.

McAdam said there are two more unnamed 5G cities that Verizon will announce this year. When asked when the new network services will start to go live in those cities, McAdam said it will be this year.

Verizon is launching 5G in 2018, just not the wireless kind that your phone will get to play with.

Verizon says it will launch fixed 5G access in three to five U.S. cities by the end of the year. Today, McAdam said the carrier expects to have "over 1,000 cell sites up on the global standard" in the near future, but he did not say where those sites will be.

In an interview, McAdam told CNBCs David Faber that relationships with progressive-minded cities like Sacramento, Los Angeles and Boston, where Verizon is testing Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, are critical to putting next-generation technology into the hands of consumers and business.

McAdam hinted at a regimented implementation that would see 5G home networking services make their way to consumers first for fixed wireless applications before mobile wireless wends its way to consumers in the first quarter of 2019.
