Texas football to play Alabama in home-and-home series in 2022

Texas football will play a home-and-home nonconference series with Alabama in 2022-2023, the school announced Wednesday. The Crimson Tide will then host the Longhorns at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa on September 9, 2023.

"We're thrilled to be able to add another incredible non-conference opponent with the University of Texas for a home-and-home series", said Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne. Alabama will travel to Texas in 2022 and the teams meet in Tuscaloosa the following year. "This will certainly be a great opportunity for our program and our fans". The Longhorns will push a home-and-home series with Ohio State from those years back to 2025-2026. In nine previous matchups between the two college football titans, Texas - and not Alabama - holds a decided edge with a 7-1-1 record.

As a result, UCF ended up with a rare home-and-home series with the Longhorns. The teams also met in the 1948 Sugar Bowl, 1960 Bluebonnet Bowl, 1965 Orange Bowl and 1973 and '82 Cotton Bowls, with the Tide winning their first game of the series in the 2010 BCS national championship game. Those adjustments are noted below. The Longhorns will host the Buckeyes on August 30, 2025 and travel to Columbus on September 5, 2026.

The Knights' final road game in the series repeatedly was pushed back until Texas announced the finale was canceled. Texas also canceled its 2023 home game with UCF, which was scheduled for the week it will now travel to play at Alabama. UTEP will visit Austin on September 19, 2020.
