Lagos party leaders blame one another for member's fatal shooting — APC Congress

Party leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege local government area of Lagos state have traded blames over the death of an official who was killed following violence that ensued after the party's local government ward congress.

The speaker, Hon. Obasa, while speaking with newsmen, decried the violence, pointing out that the sad occurrence took place after the Congress had been successfully concluded, leading to the death of the party faithful Nurudeen Olanase.

"So most times you have to do a lot of persuasions, you have to console that being a party member is worthier at times than being an executive member, that was what I was doing unfortunately for me I got to the venue after the exercise had been completed. As he was going, his security men just dragged the guy that was shot, they dropped him on the other side of the road in order for him to pass and run away", said the witness, who declined to be named for "political reasons".

Akomas, who was a former deputy governor in Abia, thanked the leaders, the delegates and other members of the party for their discipline and collaboration exhibited in ensuring the success of success in Obingwa. The police have reportedly arrested nine people allegedly involved in the violence.

"Not quite 10 minutes later, another person was shot (dead) by Obasa's boys again, and one other person was shot by the leg", the witness said.

The Speaker's spokesman, Musibau Razak, however, denied the claims, saying "It is a lie".

"Of course, as a member of APC and a Speaker, if anything happens he will be contacted and he will make necessary arrangement for peace to reign. The Speaker's effort is to maintain peace".

He also said that Mr Obasa was "nowhere near" the congress venue.

He further said the position of Youth leader which was keenly contested in Gombe Local Government Area was canceled as a result of over voting.

The party last week carried out a similar pattern of vote that saw to the election of 8424 ward executives from the 312 wards across the state.

The police in Lagos, on Saturday, said three persons had been arrested over their alleged involvement in the killing of one man during the APC LG congress in Agege.
