John Beilein, Michigan close to contract extension

MI athletic director Warde Manuel wants his football and men's basketball coaches to remain with the Wolverines until they're ready to be done with the profession.

As we first reported during the Big Ten Tournament in New York, Michigan head coach John Beilein is open to a contract extension.

"I love my coaches across the board, love those two guys in particular", Manuel said, reports ESPN.

Harbaugh has registered a 28-11 record while at MI.

Harbaugh, 54, was hired in late December 2014 but hasn't won a Big Ten title or beaten archrival Ohio State.

Although it doesn't seem like any sort of deal is coming soon, it's clear neither side would mind a fresh start in 2018. He and Ingram each generated more than 1,500 total yards from scrimmage.

"Great conversation", Manuel said Tuesday. We've been somewhat underwhelmed by Harbaugh's run at MI to date, but he clearly has the backing of the administration and has the talent on hand this year to potentially make a Playoff run.

"I don't want Jim to go anywhere either, but he's got four more years at this point".

"Jim knows how I feel about him", Manuel said.

Beilein has won 20 games in seven of his last eight seasons at MI and reached the NCAA Tournament in eight of his 11 seasons in Ann Arbor.

Beilein is the Wolverines' all-time wins leader with a record of 248-143.
