Iran's Rouhani slams some Arab states for "silence" over killings of Palestinians

Besides, "the Zionist regime (of Israel) and the United States can not separate the Muslims from their land of al-Quds (Jerusalem)", he insisted. "Therefore, legitimate self-defense of Zionists in this land is meaningless". "This is a grave mistake". "Therefore, this holy land can not be separated from the 1.5 billion population of Muslims of the world by political games".

"Palestinians have resisted for 70 years and will continue to do so until their legitimate rights are secured", Rouhani reportedly went on to say. "The actions and deeds of the Zionist Regime have always been aggression, tyranny and killing of the innocent and in the recent days, these actions are more evident".

In a Wednesday phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Rouhani described the latest massacre of Palestinians by the Zionist forces in Gaza on the 70 anniversary of Nakba (Catastrophe) Day as tragic and moving and called on the global bodies to stand by Palestinians.

"The Zionist regime and the United States assume that by exercising more pressure, they can deny the Palestinian nation its legitimate right or can separate the world's Muslims from their [holy] land of al-Quds", the president said.

Under the accord struck between Iran and six other nations including the United States under Trump's predecessor Barack Obama, Tehran agreed to curb its nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of crippling economic sanctions.

Ramazan moon sighted in Pakistan; first fast of 2018 on Thursday
The holy month traditionally begins with a new moon sighting, marking the start of the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. The PMD on May 4 had issued a handout stating that there are fair chances for the moon to be sighted on May 16 evening.

"From the first day in office, the 11th government believed that this issue has a technical and political solution and that we can reach a conclusion through respecting the rights of the Iranian people and political negotiation between countries", the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also said.

Today the United States has violated the worldwide regulations and should be put under pressure for that, Rouhani said referring to Washington withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA aka nuclear deal).

He added that the Islamic Republic would not give up under pressure, sanctions or threats. "Today, the USA has violated worldwide regulations and must be put under pressure".

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that political games should not deprive the holy city of Jerusalem from the Muslim world and highlighted the sanctity of the Palestinian land.

"This is because all know that Iran is a country, which treads down the path of peace and acts in line with global regulations", he explained, noting that "today, the U.S. should come under pressure as a country going against its promises and acting in contravention of regulations".
