Facebook introduces voice posts, story archive options for users in India

The new features include Voice Posts, Stories archive, and a slate of new cloud storage features.

For the first, one can take pictures using the Facebook camera and while the user is given the option of saving images, s/he can choose from saving the photograph in the gallery or in Facebook itself.

A voice post on stories can be up to 20 seconds.

Save photos and videos for later Facebook users will now be able to save the photos and videos taken through Facebook camera to the social networking platform. This feature will enable users to capture and save photos using Facebook's camera that they might want to share later. "We noticed that a number of users were using WhatsApp to record messages when they didn't feel like typing". Voice posts, which are also being introduced, give people a new medium through which they can express themselves.

Given that data breach has been in the news, and Facebook has been in the midst of the Cambridge Analytica row, Hayes also said that the features can only be seen by the profile owner and there will be no data breach when it comes to leaking information.

"One important thing that we learnt from WhatsApp was that voice messaging is becoming an increasingly popular way for people to communicate when they don't want type out messages". It can also be used to save photos users might want to share later, so they do not have to edit or post them while they are out with friends, and instead enjoy the moment and share them later. There is now no limit for a voice post that is shared to News Feed, but the recording time is restricted by the local storage on the user's device.

Facebook today announced that it's adding three new features to its main app which will help users "create and save memories" more effectively.

With each story expiring in 24 hours, Stories archive will provide users access to all the stories they have previously shared on the platform. We have incorporated a similar feature for Facebook stories, especially when a person is travelling.

"After a photo disappears from a story, you can still re-view it, re-live it and re-share it", Hayes said.

Earlier this year, Facebook rolled out its OLX-like platform, Marketplace, to users across India after testing the feature with a limited audience in Mumbai last year.
