It's been the deadliest day there since a devastating 2014 cross-border war.

The White House on Monday said Hamas is exclusively to blame for the deaths of Palestinians at the hands of Israeli forces, amid demonstrations in Gaza against the new United States embassy in Jerusalem. More than 2,000 Gaza residents have been wounded in that time by Israeli fire.

CBS reports that "Gaza's Hamas rulers said tens of thousands were expected to head to the border Monday and raised the possibility of large crowds breaking through the fence".

The White House said the Jewish state had the right to defend itself.

"Hamas is intentionally and cynically provoking this response", Shah added, suggesting the clashes were "a gruesome and unfortunate propaganda attempt" orchestrated by Hamas' leaders.

The White House portrayed themselves as wholly comfortable with Israel's actions, saying they totally absolve Israel of any responsibility for all of those people they killed.

Netanyahu thanked President Donald Trump for showing the "courage" to keep a key campaign promise and says relations with the US have never been stronger.
