NBA teams look to future with draft lottery, combine

(And some people know the results, this isn't a Schrodinger's lottery ball situation.) But while Dan Gilbert's kid remains the gold standard (back-to-back wins, although one was Anthony Bennett) the Orlando Magic are a strong contender this year, especially if you're a 90s kid.

In the final year of National Basketball Association tanking as we know it - rules adopted for 2019 will give the three worst teams by final record an equal 14 percent chance at the top pick in the draft lottery - Phoenix owns a 25.1 percent chance at No. 1 and 64.2 percent chance at a top-three pick.

Magic senior vice president Pat Williams told the Orlando Sentinel that he is taking an old talking Lil' Penny doll to Chicago's Palmer House Hilton to oversee the proceedings.

The most realistic scenario is that Philly gets L.A.'s 2018 first-rounder, likely at No. 10 overall.

The NBA Draft lottery is nearly upon us, and somehow the Boston Celtics are still involved. The doll will sit close by.

The Celtics are granted the selection from Los Angeles, which enters the lottery with the 10th-best chance to land the No. 1 pick, if the pick is between No. 2 and No. 5.

The Sixers are also considering trading both picks to acquire a player from another team or move up in the draft. The team will have an 8.4 percent chance of receiving the seventh pick and a 0.4 percent chance of receiving the eighth pick. They have a 0.7 percent chance at the No. 1 pick, 0.8 percent chance at No. 2 and 1.0 percent chance at No. 3 (cumulative 2.5 percent chance of getting into the top three and retaining the pick). They'll need a lot more luck this time around, though.

That's good news for Doug, as he believes there is only one choice for the Suns if Arizona's Deandre Ayton is available.

O'Neal, Hardaway and Howard became cornerstone players. If, somehow, they are the luckiest team in the lottery, and end up with that Lakers' pick, then they will have yet another opportunity to add to this list. So far, only Oladipo has developed into an All-Star, but Oladipo reached All-Star status as a member of the Indiana Pacers. He played two-plus seasons in Detroit before being traded to Oklahoma City.

Nuggets guard Jamal Murray will be on hand to represent the team.

In 2015, the Magic relocated him from the dais to the secluded room where the pingpong balls are drawn from the lottery machine.
