Local colleges: SU plans to renovate Carrier Dome

Monday, members of Syracuse University (SU) announced the iconic Carrier Dome will be receiving a new fixed roof, state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment, a vertically hung scoreboard and improved Wi-Fi communications to name just a few of the improvement set for the beginning of the 2020 fall semester.

Syracuse University is committing to spend $118 million on renovations, a project that's expected to be completed by 2022 and will not interfere with any football, basketball or lacrosse games.

"The transformed facility will afford our coaches and athletics staff the tools necessary to continue attracting student-athletes who perform as well as in their academics as they do in their respective sports", he said.

More than $6 million will go toward making the facility more accessible to the handicapped.

The project is a part of the US$255 million West Campus transformation strategy that was announced in 2016. Other Campus Framework projects include the University Place promenade, the Archbold Gymnasium renovations and the National Veterans Resource Complex. "Creating a new stadium experience is a key element to supporting a vibrant and diverse campus community".

Additional details on the project are available on the University's website.
