Levante end Barcelona's unbeaten dream with shocking 5-4 win

Barcelona lost 5-4 in a wild game at Levante on Sunday, ruining the champion's bid to become the first team to finish a Spanish league season without a loss under its current format.

Barcelona travel to South Africa to face Mamelodi Sundowns in a glamour friendly this week - a decision that may have impacted on Lionel Messi's absence from the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia.

Gibson reckons they've blown their only chance to ever secure an invincible season and blames the manager for his team picks.

"You've got Sergi Roberto injured, Samuel Umtiti injured, do you then need to make further changes in the back four? We had just two games left so losing like this makes today a hard day for us, but winning the league was the most important thing".

Barcelona had last tasted league defeat 13 months ago against Malaga, going 43 games unbeaten, but they failed in the 37th match of this season to tarnish an otherwise flawless domestic campaign.

After drawing at home to Real Madrid last weekend, despite playing the second half with 10 men, and thrashing Villarreal, Barcelona sat just two games away from the historical feat.

Body of beheaded Ghanaian uncovered in Libya
Egypt's Coptic Pope Tawadros II, along with security officials, received the remains at Cairo International Airport, MENA said. Forensic samples were taken from the bodies of the beheaded victims and were sent to Egypt to be identified by their families.

"You have to acknowledge what they've achieved, although it's odd that we conceded five goals for how the season's gone".

"It was a unique chance to do something historic, and their team selection, attitude, and the performance of Levante were the reasons it came to an end".

The hosts stormed into a 5-1 lead 11 minutes into the second half, with Barca's centre-back pairing of Thomas Vermaelen and Yerry Mina in disarray.

"We are not feeling good, we really wanted to end the season without losing, but we had a very hard game against a highly motivated team and, when you concede five goals, you don't deserve to win", Barca midfielder Philippe Coutinho, whose first hat-trick for the club was in vain, told reporters.

HOW well do you know Barcelona stars and their WAGs?

"We've seen it time and time again that complacency is their biggest opponent". Levante have played well with freedom and we haven't been able to control them. "It was a collective disappointment from Barcelona".
