Drunk and disorderly mom at school play resisted arrest, TX police said

According to Friendswood police, Christy Ann Churchwell, 35, was in the audience watching a school play Thursday night in the auditorium at Friendswood Junior High School.

A mother in Texas became an unexpected sideshow at a school play after she was kicked out for allegedly being drunk - and then attacked a cop before flooding her jail cell, police said.

According to Click2Houston, the officer "immediately detected the strong smell of alcohol" on Churchwell and noticed that she was having trouble standing upright.

A police officer on the scene asked the woman to leave and had to assist Churchwell in exiting the auditorium. Due to her intoxicated state and uncontrollable behavior, she was taken into custody for public intoxication.

Churchwell tried to punch the officer before she was arrested on a misdemeanor public intoxication charge, cops said.

KHOU reported that Churcwhell somehow set off the sprinkler system in her cell and set of a fire alarm, causing flooding.

Officers mentioned they discovered eight airplane-sized vodka bottles - seven of which had been empty - on Churchwell.

Police said while being arrested, Churchwell kicked an officer then she was slapped with an assault charge.

An unidentified family member later said Churchwell didn't do any drinking at the school, saying she "is dealing with personal issues and is going to get help".

Churchwell was charged with assaulting a peace officer, public intoxication and submitting a false report or alarm.

Attempts to reach Churchwell early Tuesday were unsuccessful.
