Chile's bishops acknowledge heads could roll over abuse cover-up

Francis made the comment during his morning homily Tuesday; the Vatican didn't release the full text.

Chile's Catholic bishops said Monday (local time) they were open to whatever Pope Francis proposes to overhaul the Chilean church, including the removal of bishops, reforms of seminaries and paying financial reparation to victims of a clergy sex abuse and cover-up scandal.

Bishop Juan Ignacio González said the bishops praise Pope Francis for admitting his mistakes, asking forgiveness and meeting with victims.

In the passage, Paul summons the priests of Ephesus and tells them that "compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem", but first he reviews how he had tried to serve the Lord when he was with them, and he urges them to "keep watch over yourselves and over the whole flock of which the Holy Spirit has appointed you overseers".

Asked about how he copes with his popularity, he said: "I try to think of my sins, my mistakes, so as not to think that I am somebody important".

"The testament of Paul is a testimony".

Is Bill O'Reilly Preparing for a Return to TV?
The report quotes an insider saying: "The deals are not done yet, but talks are in the advanced stages, certainly with O'Reilly". The prime 8pm slot would be filled by O'Reilly, Bolling's show would then begin at 9pm and would be followed by Spicer at 10pm.

Francis said that for Paul "his great love is Jesus Christ" and his second love is "for the flock".

Noting how Paul entrusted the Elders to God, knowing that He will take care of them, the Pope stressed that the Apostle spoke of having no desire to have any money or gold for himself.

"When I read this, I think about myself...because I am a bishop and I must take my leave and step down", Francis said.

Paul, the Pontiff insisted, had nothing, "only the grace of God, the apostolic courage, the revelation of Jesus Christ and the salvation that the Lord had given to him".

He concluded his homily with a prayer: "I am thinking of all bishops. May the Lord give us all the grace to take our leave this way, with this spirit, this strength, this love for Jesus Christ and this trust in the Holy Spirit".

As it happened in Ireland, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico and several other countries, the phenomenon focuses now on Chile, from where 31 diocesan and auxiliary bishops and two bishops emeritus arrived in Rome at the summon of Pope Francis.
