Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has faced a further injury setback in his recovery as he is set to be out of action until at least November.

Last week, Oxlade-Chamberlain confirmed that he had undergone successful knee surgery, and was reportedly targeting a return towards the start of the 2018-19 campaign.

Jürgen Klopp will be gutted to have Chamberlain absent for so long, with the 24-year old unlikely to make a return until February.

Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool from Arsenal in last summer's transfer window.

The England worldwide has played a crucial role in the Reds reaching the showpiece match against Real Madrid in Kiev, and scored a memorable goal in the quarter-finals against Manchester City.

Alexander-Arnold: Liverpool have impetus
Alexander-Arnold will become the youngest Liverpool player to have featured in a Champions League final when he plays in Kiev. I try to go out there and play with a smile on my face, that's what I was told to do when I was young.

He said: "I can not believe that this wonderful player and person in such a positive situation helping the team, making such a clear challenge, had this happen to him".

"I've told him already that we will wait for him like a good wife when a man is in prison".

The extent of Oxlade-Chamberlain's injury means Jurgen Klopp will be light on midfield options at the start of next season, with Emre Can believed to be close to signing a deal with Italian giants Juventus, although the summer arrival of Guinean global Naby Keita should offset that somewhat.

After hearing the news, Liverpool fans who are readying themselves for the Champions League final against Real Madrid were having to deal with the news on social media.
