"Don't just accept the status quo".

"No big challenge has ever been solved, and no lasting improvement has ever been achieved unless people dare to try something different, dare to think different", Cook said echoing the words of Apple's famous marketing campaign.

"Fearless, like the students of Parkland, Florida, who refused to be silent about the epidemic of gun violence and have rallied millions to their cause". Here, Cook not only urged graduates to leave the world a better place but to also remind them that Apple takes data privacy seriously.

Cook also encouraged Duke grads to be 'fearless, ' like the women of the #MeToo movement or the survivors of the Parkland school shooting. From the radical visionary that was Steve Jobs to its use of 100% renewable energy, Cook explains how Apple has rejected what is often considered common practices and the path of least resistance.

"Our country is deeply divided, and too many Americans refuse to hear any opinion that differs from their own". Cook took over as Apple's CEO following Jobs's 2011 death, and has since overseen the company's rise to the largest publicly traded company in the US with a $752 billion net worth. "Duke graduates, be fearless!" Our schools and communities suffer from deep inequality. In every way, at every turn, the question we ask ourselves is not what can we do but what should we do because Steve taught us that's how change happens and from him I learned to never be content with the way things are. And yet, we are not powerless in the face of these problems.

In his delivery of the university's keynote address, Cook congratulated the university's graduating seniors, advising them to "look back over you shoulder fondly and say goodbye to act one of your life and then quickly look forward".

Being the CEO of one of the world's most iconic, and therefore most powerful, tech company has ceased to be just an executive and management position. "The pace at which progress is possible has accelerated dramatically".
