Veteran Cricket coach Irfan Ansari charged with corruption by ICC

Irfan Ansari is said to have approached Sarfraz Ahmed to spot-fix after the third ODI against Sri Lanka a year ago. Ansari, officially affiliated to a team that participates in global matches and provides net bowlers to them while training in the UAE, has been charged for breaching three counts of their anti-corruption code.

Ansari, who has played for Sharjah Cricket Club and is a Level 2 coach, is said to have approached Sarfraz Ahmed, the Pakistan skipper, to spot-fix after the third One-Day International against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi past year.

According to sources, Irfan Ansari tried to involve Sarfraz Ahmed in a spot-fixing. Sarfraz had immediately reported the same to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after which he had earned a lot of praise. However, he quickly informed the team management ahead of the third ODI in Abu Dhabi.

ICC also issued a statement that Irfan Ansari breached the ICC code of conduct.

Ansari has been charged with making a corrupt approach to a player and for not cooperating in an investigation by the ICC's anti-corruption unit since last October. Fails to provide the correct and complete documentation or information in October 2017.
