Policeman dies in Wadwan militant attack, youth injured in clashes with forces

A constable was killed in a suspected militant attack on a police post set up to guard members of the minority community residing in central Kashmir on Friday.

The militants attacked guard post of police at village Wadwan in Badgam.

Official sources said the policeman, who has been identified as selection grade constable Shamim Ahmad, sustain critical bullet wounds in the militant attack.

Police in Budgam Friday afternoon successfully thwarted a weapon snatching attempt in Wardwan area of Soibug, police said in a statement.

"Shamim was asked to lead toward the Guard Post however he raised an alarm and the alert jawans inside the Guard Post successfully foiled it", he said.

Shamim was immediately rushed to nearby hospital, however, died on the way.

A police official said the Islamic State had claimed responsibility online for the incident. Meanwhile, one youth was injured after the Army allegedly opened fire on protesters in Soibugh area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district.Theyouthwho were protesting against civiliankillings pelted stones on the deployedsecurity forces personnel.
