Mackenzie Dern Misses Weight By A Longshot For UFC 224 Weigh-Ins

If you've been paying attention to the MMA headlines this morning, you've surely seen that Mackenzie Dern missed weight for her UFC 224 scrap with Amanda Bobby Cooper. If (Dern had weighed in at) the next division, we wouldn't allow the fight.

Cooper stepped on the scale about 30 minutes after Dern on Friday, hitting the upper limit on the nose at 116 pounds.

Keep in mind that the Brazilian commission must also sanction the bout before the fight can be deemed official.

While nobody could have faulted Cooper if she turned this bout with Dern down, she ultimately elected to accept the fight at a catchweight, and will receive a hefty chunk of Dern's purse as a result. Dern's issues have been present since her second mixed martial arts fight, where she came in 3.8 pounds heavy, and it continued to her third bout, where she missed weight by five pounds.

For the first time since 2011, no country is withdrawing from the contest, and this year a joint record number of participants will be performing.

Despite the weigh-in slip-up by Dern, she and Cooper will still be part of a main card that will be main-evented by Amanda Nunes defending her bantamweight title against Raquel Pennington.

Dern, who holds a pro-MMA record of 6-0, made her promotional debut against Ashley Yoder in March at the UFC 222 pay-per-view event where she scored a split decision win.
