Hamilton has designs on Miami layout

"Miami is a super cool place, and I was very, very excited to hear about it, and then I saw the layout and it was like "meh", the four-times world champion said before this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.

Hamilton leads his main rival Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari, a fellow four-time champion, by four points after four rounds in this year's title race.

While supportive of the proposal, Lewis Hamilton said before approval from the City Commission that he wants to give his input into the track layout.

"In all honesty I have zero comfortability", he said when asked about being leader.

"We have been capitalising on circumstances like the outcome of the last race so I will take it for now, but in the long term the team can not continue to rely on that". All the teams must come to an agreement about how the sport will look after 2020, so there is that consideration.

"I guess I can't really expand too much on it because if we knew it all we could do it, and also we're constantly working on solutions, set-up direction, or getting to the auto to optimum set-up on the weekend has been interesting".

The Ferrari driver has claimed pole in the last three events and topped the timesheets at the Circuit de Catalunya when F1 was last in Barcelona two months ago for winter testing.

We will not be commenting further at this stage.

What ruined everything of course was how it ended, but Red Bull can perhaps count themselves lucky they have two pretty laid back drivers in their team, who both know the best way to have moved on from Baku was an in-depth chat and a stern handshake. We are constantly working on a solution. "Right now, there is a fight to maximise the result in every race". "I would say we were a little bit more confident previous year in the hope of starting on the right foot because we understood the vehicle a little bit better already by this point".

The contest this weekend is also likely to be seen as a solid indicator for the season ahead as it is regarded as a "bellwether" circuit which, by Sunday night, will have seen how all of the top teams have progressed with their extensive packages of upgrades following the opening four flyaway races.
